Jogjakarta: A Special District

Jogjakarta is one of the biggest city in Java Island which belong to the capital and center of government of Special Province of Jogjakarta. It also belongs to a place where Jogjakarta King and Pakualam Duke live. One of the Sub-district, that is Kota Gede (in English: Big City) had ever became a center of Mataram Kingdom Empire in 1575-1640. The Kingdom Palaces which still have fully function are Jogjakarta and Pakualam Palace. Those palaces are as a result of Separated Mataram Kingdom. 

Geography

Jogjakarta is located in three valleys: Winongo, Code, and Gajahwong River. This city is 600 kilometers from Jakarta. Although this city is located in valleys, it seldom experiences flood because it has a good maintained-hydrology. Jogjakarta has been integrated with its surrounding area. Jogjakarta consists of 14 sub-districts: 
Mantrijeron, Kraton, Mergangsan, Umbulharjo, Kotagede, Gondokusuman, Danurejan, Pakualaman, Gondomanan, Ngampilan, Wirobrajan, Gedongtengen, Jetis as well as Tegalrejo sub-district. 
The number of Jogjakarta's density  population is about 388.088 people (2010). Islam is the largest religion in there. Most Muslim still hold the old Javanese Islam tradition.  This city also has a history role as a place where the biggest Islam Institution, Muhamadiyah was formed by the late Ahmad Dahlan in 1912, Kauman Village.  
Besides, Jogjakarta is well known as a educated city because almost 20 percent of its productive people are students and there are 137 colleges. Gajah Mada Universitiy is the most popular University in Indonesia, even international. 

Transportation 

The location of Jogjakarta is very strategic because it located in main route, that is the southern route which connects Jogjakarta, Bandung, Solo, Surabaya and southern cities of Java Island, as well as the Jogjakarta-Semarang route which connects Jogjakarta, Magelang, Semarang, and cities of Central Java. Therefore, the bus transportation abundantly makes mobility of people become easier. This city can be reached easily through ground and air transportation. Because the location of this city is far away from sea (27-30 kilometers), it has no water transportation. 
City Bus 
Jogjakarta is well known as a city which has no minibus. The ground transportation of Jogjakarta is serviced through comfortable city bus. 
Trans Jogjakarta
Since March 2008, the newest transportation system, that is called Trans Jogjakarta present to service the transportation needs of people quickly, comfortably, and safely. This bus belongs a bus which service 3/4 wide range of cities area,  Sleman and a half of Bantul sub-district. 
There are 8 routes of Trans Jogjakarta bus: 
  • Route 1A and Route 1B: It services to government and business are, e.g: Jogjakarta, Malioboro, as well as President Kingdom Palace. 
  • Route 2A and Route 2B: It services to offices Kota Baru Sukonandi
  • Route 3A and Route 3B: It services southern area, as well as history place, Kotagede 
  • Route 4A and Route 4B. It services education area, e.g University of Islam Indonesia and Lempuyangan Railway Station
Trans Jogjakarta is very welcomed because it provides comfortable and cheap price. To ride this transportation, you just need to spend 3,000 (U$ 1/4).
